FORMER BERTELSMANN EXECUTIVE ALFRED TOLLE LEADS 10-YEAR-OLD LYCOS IN NEW DIRECTION
New CEO Brings Focus Back to Media, Entertainment And User-Generated Content on Lycos.comWALTHAM, Mass. - August 22, 2005 - Lycos, Inc.(www.lycos.com), a leading media content destination for creators and consumers of quality content, today announced the following information in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Alfred Tolle recently joined Lycos as its chief executive officer, responsible for revenue, profit and the consumer experience for Lycos' P&L including leading the management of all the Web sites within the Lycos portfolio of sites, sales, product development and marketing. Mr. Tolle currently sits on the Board of Directors of Daum Communications Corporation, one of the leading Internet, media and e-commerce destinations in Korea, with a growing presence throughout the Asian markets, and the parent company of Lycos, Inc. "Celebrating our 10th anniversary, Lycos is one of the true survivors of the internet boom and bust, and we now have a great opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to the market," said Alfred Tolle, Chief Executive Officer of Lycos, Inc. "The Lycos brand continues to resonate with millions of web users all over the world. With the strong backing of our parent company, my goal is to now focus on our assets and to reinvigorate the Lycos brand." Last month, Lycos launched a new home page designed to present and easily navigate user-generated content, as well as content from Lycos and its partners, providing more of a daily entertaining experience for end users. Under the new leadership, Lycos will become the place people go to create, store, market and search for digital media content. "Lycos is a top 20 web property, and the fourth most popular portal destination, but over the past few years, Lycos has done very little to raise awareness to call attention to itself," Tolle added. "Over the next few months, you will see Lycos reemerging as the best place to find user-generated content. So whether you're searching for blogs, podcasts, photos, music, or videos, you will find it on Lycos." Lycos is also now more focused on delivering and organizing content through better site integration, navigation and search. "One of my first goals here at Lycos was to change the home page to better serve our users and to drive traffic to other parts of the network," Tolle said. "Now, when loyal users come to Tripod and Angelfire, we can offer them Wired News and Gamesville content, or Lycos Entertainment and music content, and vice versa." Prior to joining Lycos, Mr. Tolle's previous experience includes his recent role at Bertelsmann, as Vice President, Far and Southeast Asia for BOL.com, where he oversaw all of the e-commerce activities in the region, and developed ongoing long-term strategies. Mr. Tolle established the Asia/Pacific regional offices for BOL.com in Tokyo, to develop and oversee the Asian market for all Bertelsmann e-commerce activities. While at Bol.com, Mr. Tolle was responsible for the P&L for the Chinese and Japanese Operations. As the founder of Tolle Media, an international corporate consulting group, Mr. Tolle has broad experience in several industries in Europe and Asia and comes to Lycos with extensive executive-level experience in developing and implementing corporate strategies. His expertise lies in corporate strategy, marketing, sales, and business expansion, particularly in the Media and IT sectors.
