Rep. Ron Paul continues to dominate web search activity among both the GOP and the Democratic candidates in the 2008 race for the White House, generating 150 percent more online interest that the second most-searched presidential hopeful, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. However, among the GOP candidates hoping to win their party's nomination, Huckabee sees the largest boost in search activity, generating three times more search interest over the past six months. Currently, Huckabee receives 67 percent more search interest than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and is six times more popular than Sen. John McCain, based on web search activity. Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Sen. Hillary Clinton may be slipping in the polls, but she continues to enjoy a 63 percent lead over Sen. Barack Obama in online interest.

Lycos last reported on the web activity each candidate was generating in June, 2007. Since that time, Rep. Paul has generated four times more search interest over the past six months, with Sen. Clinton jumping 52 percent in search popularity. Of the Democratic presidential hopefuls, front-runner Sen. Barack Obama sees the biggest bump in online interest since June, up 167 percent, while Sen. John Edwards remains unchanged in the search polls. On the Republican side, Sen. Fred Thompson continues to see a decrease in search activity, down 67 percent since June, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani comes in a very distant last place with web users, failing to register any momentum on the search radar.
