LYCOS KICKS OFF "WORLD CUP" MANIA WITH BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO COVERAGE OF ALL THE CRAZINESS & NONE OF THE SCORES, AVAILABLE ONLY ON LYCOS TV

LYCOS Teams with Deutsche Welle Media Training Program, Embeds Videographers on the Ground in Germany Capturing Wacky World Cup Culture off the Field, Around the Clock

WALTHAM, Mass. . June 9, 2006 - Lycos, Inc. (www.lycos.com), a leading media destination for creators and consumers of quality content celebrates World Cup mania with a "behind the scenes" look at the mayhem surrounding the biggest sporting event in the world. Beginning today, LYCOS invites viewers to go to http://worldcup.lycos.com for an insider's look at wacky World Cup culture, featuring exclusive video from embedded Lycos videographers on the front lines, available only on LYCOS TV. Unlike other news organizations and sporting sites, LYCOS TV brings soccer fans and non-fans alike, all of the craziness and none of the scores, with an entirely unique POV from four separate videographers off the field, and on the fringe. Additionally, LYCOS has aggregated over-the-top soccer video content from around the world, including Japan, Korea and China, as well as "alternative" soccer blogs and slide shows, creating an entertaining, first-hand, colorful look at the community and craziness surrounding the World Cup.

"The content we're presenting will appeal to everyone, whether you're following the World Cup or not, because it's all about the hysteria and mayhem associated with this internationally huge sporting event," said Alfred Tolle, CEO of LYCOS, Inc. "Viewers have appetites for all kinds of content, and we want to move beyond showcasing only user-generated content, and really focus on delivering a higher quality of pro-am content, that is very entertaining, unique and viral at the same time."

Beyond showcasing unique World Cup content not available anywhere else, the LYCOS platform also offers a true participatory experience, where visitors can watch video, read blogs, view text reports and build community, all on one platform, and all for free.

LYCOS's embedded videographers off the field include Oliver Hoffman, who knows first hand the action outside the stadium can be much more exciting than the game itself; Hans Fleischner, who can't memorize a poem, but knows the name of every Brazilian soccer player; and Lynnette Luis, who looks forward to the Carnival atmosphere in Cologne, as millions will worship a little white and black spotted ball and pray to the soccer gods, that their team will take home the World Cup.

LYCOS is also teaming with international Germany's international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle, to provide unique World Cup video content produced by eight video teams, including colleagues from TV stations in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Mozambique, Ghana, Afghanistan and Egypt. Their World Cup content will be showcased and viewed by millions of web users on LYCOS TV.

Since its inception in 1965, more than 18,000 journalists, technicians, engineers and managers from TV and radio stations in developing countries including Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and near Middle East, including Afghanistan, have participated in the Deutsche Welle training program. Financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the goal of the program is to expand professional knowledge, gain new experiences and establish international contacts for its students. Many former program participants currently hold top media positions in their native countries.
